ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK. The article reviews the main problems of the epidemiology of infectious diseases in Poland. It is an introduction to the Epidemiological Chronicle presented annually in the Epidemiological Review.
MATERIAL AND METHODS. The data contained in this article come from the reports of the State Sanitary Inspectorate collected as part of routine epidemiological surveillance. Information on deaths comes from the reports from Statics Poland.
RESULTS AND THEIR DISCUSSION. Based on the basic materials, this text presents data on infectious diseases of particular importance due to high incidence, such as influenza and other respiratory infections, or due to increasing trends, such as C. difficile infections, and Lyme disease. Particular attention was paid to diseases against which vaccinations are used and to non-endemic diseases imported from abroad. In the epidemiological characteristics of individual diseases, reference was made mainly to the data on the number of cases, incidence and deaths included in Table 1.

STRESZCZENIE
CEL PRACY. Artykuł dotyczy głównych problemów epidemiologii chorób zakaźnych w Polsce. Stanowi podsumowanie Kroniki Epidemiologicznej w 2019 r. przedstawionej w Przeglądzie Epidemiologicznym.
MATERIAŁ I METODY. Dane zawarte w tym artykule pochodzą z raportów Państwowej Inspekcji Sanitarnej zebranych w ramach rutynowego nadzoru epidemiologicznego. Informacje o zgonach pochodzą ze sprawozdań Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego.
WYNIKI I ICH OMÓWIENIE. W oparciu o bazowe materiały w tym tekście przedstawiono dane dotyczące chorób zakaźnych o szczególnym znaczeniu z racji wysokiej zapadalności jak: grypa i inne infekcje dróg oddechowych lub z racji narastających trendów jak zakażenia C. difficile i borelioza z Lyme. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono chorobom, przeciw którym stosowane są szczepienia oraz chorobom nieendemicznym zawlekanym z zagranicy. W charakterystyce epidemiologicznej poszczególnych chorób odwoływano się głównie do danych na temat liczby przypadków, zapadalności i zgonów zawartych w Tabeli 1.
